      The history of Nakapuzha Church is in its zenith with the glorious spirituality and ever broken holiness. The history of Nakapuzha Church gets its credibility with the historical touch and methodical co-relations. Our Lady of benevolence, the mother of Nakapuzha got the place in the heart of its devotees for the mercy to the motherless, home to the homeless, food to the starves. The mother of Nakapuzha is venerated and treated as the BREAD OF HEAVEN to the prayerful minds, the bread which flows like an endless rain.

    The world famous pilgrim center Nakapuzha Church is in the district of Ernakulam which is in the Taluk of Muvattupuzha and seven kilometers away from Thodupuzha. The place Nakapuzha which is blessed by Our Lady is known in the Map of Christianity as the Lourd of East. Though Nakapuzha is centered with all literature, all creeds, all believes, all cast , neglecting all the creeds and cast , lacks of people gets the blessing of Our Lady and back home with divine glory and realizing the meaning of life. Every year September 1st to September 8 is celebrated as the birthday of Our Lady of benevolence. With all its holiness Ettamidam is observed with rites and festivities.

   It is believed to be that St. Mary’s Church Nakapuzha is founded in 900 AD. And for that,it has its own traditional believers and mythological spreads. To make it solid the Angamaly Diocese had published a Catholic Directory saying authentically about the history and tradition of Nakapuzha church. Again, one of the famous writers, Bernad Thoma in his text, Marthoma Christhianikal” in AD 1599 has written as, the church which is named after Our Lady was founded in the 13 th century. A Christian named Vachakal Mappila has struggled a lot to build the church when it was separated from Mailacombu.
